It is an external hyperlink from one website to another web page. Also called an Inbound Link (IBL), these links are important in determining the popularity (or importance) of your website and are important for SEO because some search engines, particularly Google, will give more recognition to web pages that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more pertinent than others in their results pages of a search query.
